We’re speaking your language...
“It’s lovely to see Esperanto being taken seriously on your page, but your figure of 1,000 speakers is a bit short of the mark,” says Lynda Hill.
How dare you Lynda – we sourced that from Wikipedia, so it must be true!
A “native” speaker is someone who learns it at home from their parents and – let’s be honest – we’re surprised that there are even 1,000 of them. In a less tolerant society someone would call in the social services.
We’re not anti-Esperanto, we just like poking fun at people who are different. So if you’re a speaker, or if you work with a speaker, please get in touch. In Esperanto, if possible.
Esperanto parolantoj kutime taksas la numero de tiel-dirita 'denaska' parolantoj je 3000. Eble ?i estas iom troa, sed ne tro troa, mi pensas. Mi ne scias kien tiu fakto devenas. Mi mem, mi estas kaj esperantisto kaj Morica dancantoj, do mi estas multoble malsama.
(Esperanto speakers generally set the number of so-called 'denaska' speakers at 3000. Maybe this is a bit high, but not too high I think. I don't know where this fact comes from. But I'm an esperantist and a Morris Dancer, so I'm multiply different.)

La nombro da denaskaj esperantistoj estas pli proksime al 2000 ol al 1000.
Sed tio ne gravas, cxar la plejmulto el ni, lernis Esperanton kiel duan lingvon.
The number of native speakers of Esperanto is closer to 2000 than to 1000.
But that is not important, because most of the Esperanto speakers, learned it as a second language.

Thank you for helping people know about the benefits of using Esperanto.

I am an Esperantist (someone who speaks Esperanto), although I am not a native speaker.
According to the Wikipedia article, there are between 100,000 and 2 million speakers.
Mi estas esperantisto (iu, kiu parolas Esperanton), kvankam mi ne estas denaska parolanto.
La? la Vikipedia artikolo, ekzistas inter 100.000 kaj du milionoj da parolantoj.

Apart from a worldwide census asking "Do you speak Esperanto", or not probably, who can give any reliable statistic?
According to the CIA factbook it is now within the top 100 languages, out of 6,000 languages worldwide. Its the 17th most used language by Wikipedia and is in use by Skype.
Increasingly dubbed as the "linux of language" it should not, anymore, be dismissed.
Detail can be confirmed at http://www.esperanto.net

I do not know why Esperanto speakers are obsessed about how many people, worldwide, fluently speak the language!
Esperanto is a living language. No one can deny that.
Implementation seems to be the key, therefore.
